Homework Heroes: Peer 2 Peer Support

Breaking Down Barriers , Building Up Futures

About

Our program connects families with dedicated teenage volunteers who provide free or low-cost tutoring to children in need of academic support.

Designed to foster peer-to-peer learning, this initiative not only helps students overcome educational challenges but also empowers teen tutors to develop leadership and teaching skills.

By creating a supportive and collaborative environment, we aim to unlock potential, boost confidence, and build brighter futures for everyone involved.

Together, we’re shaping a community where learning is accessible, engaging, and inspiring for all.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate in this program?

This program is designed for two groups: teens who need volunteer hours and elementary students from low-income families who need extra academic support. Teens must be enrolled in high school and meet any other criteria set by the program. Elementary students must come from families with financial need and require additional academic help in subjects such as reading, math, or science.

How do I sign up my teen to volunteer?

To sign up as a teen volunteer, simply complete the online application form on our website or contact our program coordinator. We’ll ask for some basic information and availability. Once accepted, you’ll receive training to ensure you’re well-prepared to work with elementary students.

What kind of support will the elementary students receive?

Elementary students will receive personalized tutoring in subjects they struggle with, such as reading, writing, math, or science. Volunteers will work one-on-one or in small groups to provide academic assistance and mentoring, helping to improve both their grades and confidence.

Are the volunteer hours flexible?

Yes, volunteer hours are flexible! Teens can choose from a variety of shifts, based on their availability and the needs of the students. We aim to accommodate each volunteer’s schedule to make it easier for them to earn their required volunteer hours.

Is there any cost for students to participate in the tutoring?

No, the tutoring is completely free of charge for families who qualify. Our program is funded through donations and grants, so there is no cost for the students receiving support. Our goal is to help bridge the educational gap for students from low-income families who may not have access to private tutors.
